Here we exist together: I am you, and you are me, 2021

Human sweat, aerosol diffusers, space heaters, steel, tape, screws, colored light gels

Through olfaction and thermo-sensory installation, this work explores the boundaries of the human body. How can we abstract the figure through chemistry, and what implications does this have for intimacy? Rather than visual figuration, the human body is made manifest through characteristic properties of chemicals: scent, light, and heat. Sweat collected for months is diffused throughout the space, moving from air to lungs and into vents to explore the restLight gels change of the body. Light gels alter the color of the room, shifting the walls to a warmer tone. Space heaters with custom metal covers cause the viewer to begin to sweat themselves in the 80 degree heat. The “chemical body” is dissolved into space, crossing the boundaries of the viewer’s body and creating an intimacy by way of the chemical.
