Still image projection onto drive in movie theatre screen.
As a part of the Windbreak Retreat, an Earth Day cinema and experimental arts retreat at the Frontier Drive-In in Centre, CO, participants were invited to screen environmental cinema on the big screen. An image of a HEPA air filter was projected onto the screen in the San Luis Valley. The screen, aligned with the wind, metaphorically and physically blocks the outdoor viewer from the dust whipped up by the western wind.
This series of air filter works visually marks how air pollution and air conditioning atmospherically delinates space. This work in particular references one of the early uses of air conditioning, movie theatres, but places it outdoors, where pollution is less easy to control.
